With the emergence of alternative fuel technology and the rise of CHG, the need for high-speed COPV production is at the forefront of composites manufacturing. The multi-spindle CXG high-speed filament winder was designed for this exact purpose. Driven by dual motors, the lightweight carriage design can apply towpreg or slit tape at speeds of up to 5m/sec. At such speeds, a robust tensioning creel is needed upstream to supply tensioned fiber material.

First introduced in the summer of 2020 following a yearlong development cycle, the ST2 servo tensioning creel is capable of handling greater than 5m/sec payout speeds with 0.1lbf tension accuracy. The creel can be customized to production-specific requirements and occupies a minimal floor footprint.

With the pairing of the CXG high-speed filament winder and ST2 servo tensioning creel, the combination is ready to meet and exceed the ever-increasing demands of modern fiber winding and the challenging output requirements of today’s COPV market.
